As I humbly accept the NCAA President's Gerald R. Ford Award, I am reminded of the journey that began on a college campus and led me to the global stage. From the early mornings on the water with the rowing team to the halls of the International Olympic Committee, each stroke, each decision was aimed at fostering inclusivity, championing the rights of athletes, and nurturing the seeds of opportunity.
This award is not just a recognition of my journey but a testament to the power of sport as a unifier and a catalyst for change. It honors the collective efforts of countless individuals dedicated to the Olympic movement, to advancing women's sports, and to nurturing the next generation of athletes through organizations like the LA84 Foundation. As I reflect on this honor, my heart is filled with gratitude for every mentor, teammate, and community member who has been part of this incredible voyage. Together, we've navigated the challenges, celebrated the triumphs, and, most importantly, kept the doors wide open for those who will follow. The work continues, and this recognition fuels my commitment to ensuring that the spirit of fairness, equality, and global camaraderie prevails in every arena. Here's to the journey ahead, the lives we'll touch, and the world we'll shape together. Thank you to the NCAA for this profound honor. #GeraldRFordAward #NCAA #Advocacy #InclusivityInSports
